Took the venom out on the rocks today, worked out much better than the FJ40 scaler thing. The creeper has a few minor problems I need to address, but what doesn't on a maiden voyage? I need to triangulate the rear uppers just a little more as the rear axle has some lateral sway. The 35T is a little too fast unless I can soften the throttle curve with my radio, probably swap to a 45T though. The servo is weak, I knew this, just no money to upgrade yet. It really needs a servo in the 300+ oz range. I also think it could use some more weight up front and some dialing in of the shock adjusters. I'm pleased with it though, just some minor things needed. Here's the video.

No BB's on this one. I have some lead stick-on weight inside the aluminum beadlocks already. My plan is to make some knuckle weights that will hang below the front knuckles to reall bring the center of gravity down. Though slow and controllable throttle would help with the bouncing.

Thinking it looks kinda speedy for a crawler but wanst sure if it was just my eyes playing tricks. Used to be a guy that made knuckles for clods that had craddles for your battery cells to wrap around, pretty beefy things.

Yup, same theory just with lead melted into the proper form rather than batteries. Plus everyone uses lipos these days. It is too fast, more importantly it's too jumpy. I think a lot of that is due to the radio. Might change the throttle curve to ramp up rather than be linear. I do like the full throttle wheel speed at times though.

By the way, the snow is on the backside of the rocks. I get into it and slip around a bit later i the video. Sorry for no editing.

looks a bit more capable than the ta02 man. and all that snow is gone. you might need to look into a CC01 chassis or something.

yeah that 35t if a bit much for it. use a 45 or 55t for it. but if you ever decide to build a trail rig then throw that 35t in it for some wheel speed.

I don't know about everyone else, but I'm creeped out! Other than needing the slower motor, the rig itself looks good.

Thanks guys. Forgot to mention one other problem. I'm running the stock proline memory foams which I've heard become rock hard in the cold weather. I have some other foams that I'll swap in and do comparison videos of. Just want to get it dialed in first, maybe swap around the rocks in the pile.

Wow, haven't done much with this since February haha. Well last time I drove it on the rocks I discovered the servo was way too weak. There are some monster torque standard servos out there, but I'm cheap. So what do I do? I get a $13 1/4 scale servo from hobbyking and shoehorn it onto my front axle. 25kg of torque at 6V will be plenty. I made the servo mount out of steel, rather than aluminum and then adding lead weight. If you need to add weight, why not just make a component heavier. Anyway, here's a few pics of it installed and a standard servo sitting on top for size reference.

Well, I was working on getting this crawler ready to take on vacation with me. I tested everything on the carpet the other day and it seemed fine. Went to check steering clearance and it wouldn't steer fully. Looked into it and found the CVD snapped. Maybe it was cracked previously, or maybe it was flawed all along. Anyway, here's the carnage.

Not sure. I can't order anything online in time and I don't know if any local shop down there would carry the parts in stock. I'd kinda like to upgrade to RC4WD shafts too.

Sav, for the venom crawlers there is only stock or rc4wd. I have heard nothing bad about the venom XVDs, in fact the creeper guys on RCC petitions RC4WD to bring them back. But $15 to fix it stock or $40 for the upgrade. I'm heading to Florida on Tuesday, maybe Wednesday. Was hoping to meet up with Wrench and do some crawling but looks like that won't work.

MJ, That was my thinking on the servo, heavy but in the right place. No dogbones, CVDs are stock in the creepers.

Reason I asked was maybe call ahead to known shops there? or local? Know nothing close but get it running...

Not a bad idea, ashamed to say I didn't think of it. Though I'm not a fan of telephones, so that probably played a part, haha. I'll see if I can run down some of the shops numbers. Luckily they seem to be on every corner down there, unlike here. Actually, Wrench is racing in the same city this weekend. Too bad it wasn't next weekend, I could check out his skills on the track.

Another thought is, buy the parts off ebay and have them shipped to my sister's house. Only downside is you have to trust the ebay sellers shipping time estimate.
