Wow Traxxas, way to shoot down my hopes for you. Me and lots of other people thought it was gonna be more-practical 1/8 or 1/5 offroad kit, not some 1-purpose onroad kit that only a select few will be able to buy/use/setup. I'm almost positive this thing will flop in sales!

"Extended slash 4x4" Why am I not surprised, haha. Guys on forums have been making larger scale onroad cars with the slash 4x4 for a long time now. So like every mfg, traxxas took what was already done and produced it as their own. They did do a better job than a custom 1-off though. I really like the full chassis pan.

The I-phone marketing trickery doesn't sit well with me either. You need an i-phone to "unlock" the speed governor, what's up with that? Wasn't an apple fan before and this further proves I was right, haha.

I agree with you on this K. It will be a flop. It'll probably also be very expensive to both buy and upgrade/repair. While you've gotta give it to Traxxas for making this awesome ride, a juiced up 4tec isn't going to cut it. But a wreck at 100-ish mph with lipo on board spells disaster in my book. I don't know about you guys, but I'm limited on finding a place to get one of these up to speed, if I could even afford one. Which brings me to this question. Anyone heard of how much these will retail for? Try anywhere from $1,000 to $1,100!!! :eek

Bid away...it starts at only $950+$20 s&h

well, to me this is like their version of the bugatti veyron. just wanted to prove they could do it. the veyron is not practical at all, and actually looses money for VW for everyone sold.

at $1000 i doubt this will lose money for them (traxxas), but i see it more of a "hey look what we can do, and you can't"

i aplaud them for going for it, but still its not practical at all, at those speeds you need an entire mall parking lot with no bumps or humps. can you imagine a curb at 50mph let alon 100.

I'm sorry, but a 100 mph RC is just silly to me. At that speed, we're talking serious damage to whatever it hits- don't even wanna think about it careening off into a crowd at the park or something.

I sure hope they have some sort of common sense test you have to pass before they sell it to you.

They claim its for experts only, and it warns of death on the package. And you know just as well as I do, some kid will end up killing someone and giving the hobby a bad wrap. I agree that it's mostly Traxxas flexing it's muscles. I've been seeing their name alot more in advertising lately, them plus hobbyking. But come on, a freakin 100mph missile? Could you imagine getting this thing up to speed and some kid running out in front of it? And with it already on Ebay there's proof that there is no restrictions (other than price) as to who can get their hands on one.

i have a feeling the price will really disuade most people from getting it. but once you are able to buy the body and undercariage for aerodynamics it wont stop most guys from making their own for only the price of the aerodynamics.

i know i could probably make a 100mph car for the cost of of elecs, and a used roller with some custom work. really it should only take a couple hundo to get to a speed like that if you know what you are doing.

i do see lawsuits if anything hjappens. but i guess that is why they have a warning. and its epert only and all that.

Now see, I don't have the same trepedation with a hobbyist who builds a super quick RC from the ground up. That in itself usually means the person has skill & intelligence.

I guess my biggest problem is the whole RTR thing. No skill needed. Just get Daddy Warbucks to buy it for you for your birthday, make a call on your fancy phone, & go out & be a bad a$$.

yeh, totally agree with you on that one. it will be too easy for people to get hurt. and cars are easier than aircraft.

then again, model aircraft have the AMA American Modeling Association, which when you are a member, it is sort of a insurance/protection governing body that in case of an accident with property damage or injury will assist. it makes sense because just about any rc airplane, once you get outta the rtr stuff, is big, heavy, and flies very fast. the chances of a serious injury with an airplane is huge compared to that of rc cars. and they seem to do pretty well. but then again, most guys in the rc airplane hobby have to spend a LOT more money on their hobby than rc cars, they build them, and put a lot of time into them, so there are much fewer weekend kids/idiots who can get into that hobby.

rc cars have no protection agency at all. and with a RTR business model these days it opens the doors for more idiots. maybe if they didnt make it a RTR, and made it a kit it would dissuade some buyers.

as far as profit goes, this thing priced at $1k is probably the largest profit margin for traxxas ever. its actually a very simple chassis, and would cost about $100 for a nice used roller.

Doubt they will cause if you try to be negative what so ever on traxxas forum you get points docked and they remove anything negative towards traxxas products...top it off their admins are a-holes. Right in the rules to you cant put down a traxxas product..lame. This is just a waste of r&d and they really screwed themselves locking the final speed unless you got a iphone while alot have them alot also dont...I dont but I do have a ipod touch which you can use but last thing I would spend a g on is a onroad :crazy

Some peeps over on RCSparks are sayin that it was a good release because Traxxas hasn't released an onroad car in a while. Well there's a reason behind that: what do more Traxxas fans buy, a 4-tec or a slash? I'm pretty sure we know the answer behind that. Onroad just doesnt have as much interest as offroad; partially because you can easily turn an off-roader into a road runner, but you cant turn an onroad into an offroader. We've all watched E-Revo's & Rustlers modded to the point where they can touch or come close to 100mph.

P.S. Nobody can accuse me of being a Traxxas hater, my very first hobby rc was a Slash!
