I wanted to widen mine, but it was kinda turning out to be a pain in the ass so I didn't.

It's really not too bad with stock-sized arms. Obviously not as stable but you still have the sway bars, right? Those will help a bunch.
I don't have sway bars, I just gotta be careful how hard and fast I turn on grippy surfaces.

What im worried about is it being tipsy, I love it wide right now cause I have rarely seen it even think about tipping over but would require a new set of cvds now since I bought the wrong set :roll

Like I said, I don't have any sway bars and also run stock springs and oil weight. Mine will roll if you turn too hard, going too fast, but that's mostly on pavement.
On dirt is usually has enough power to spin the wheels and slide but it's rolled a couple times catching a solid patch or something in the ground.

Yours would probably be more stable with your stiffer springs and them swayze bars.

lol swayze bars, yes guess I will run it and see how it goes but the front is still wide and the sway bar is only in the front to, I never got around to doing the rear. I will say its kinda nice haivng the rear tires tucked under the lid now.

I posted my Slash on TheToyz and someone said it gave them an idea to use AX10 wheels they had kicking around. They asked about the grinding/trimming I had to do. I didn't know how the AX10 wheels fit so I put one on and it's got a slightly larger inner diameter So I'm thinking about stripping the anodizing on the axial rings and just run them plain or paint them black. After I put the Eight Shooters back on my Slash I ran into an issue I forgot about. The end of the arm where the caster block pin goes through is thicker than the stock arms and rubs on the beadlock ring. I had trimmed down that part on one arm but it's now on the other side of the truck and the trimmed area is upside-down. I still very much like the Eight Shooters on my Slash, but like Epic wheels... the Axial wheels will just be a much simpler solution than having to grind down several nice RPM parts and possible compromise their structural integrity. Or maybe find a way to widen the front hex's/axles. Since I'm broke, don't use my AX10 too often and the offset isn't too much of a difference, I think I'm going to swap tires/foams and use the AX10 wheels on my Slash.

Here are the pics I took...

Image The offset isn't much, like 1/8" but it looks a little wider.

Image

Image Suspension fully compressed, both skids are on the table.

The front looks a lot higher than before and since the front wheels seem to have room to spare between the fender, I can probably lower it a notch or two. Now that I have a sway bar, what body roll there may be probably won't be enough to make the tires rub while turning at speed. I do have to trim the bottom of the fenders a little. Since the rear posts can't go any higher without fabricating a mount I have to trim them a bit.

The Eight Shooters don't look too bad on my AX10...

I'm also thinking about using my stock WK body but I'm gonna have to hack it up a little more.
Image

Image

Image

Image Still don't have a split pack, so when I run it I strap a pack on the stock plate.

I do like the orange on the rings but it doesn't really go with my paint. I may have to strip it and do an orange/black theme.
Ever since I saw Wrench's paint on his Slash it's made me wish I had done something to accent the details molded into the body.

I also kinda like the ARTR body... but I'm liking the stock WK lid on it too. Especially since I'm gonna be trading wheels I think it looks a little better.

The hammers look nice on the Slash!

I threw the Slash body over my AX-10 w/badlands and it looks nice, too.

Here's my Xtreme Slash Project truck. It's under construction, but have tested it wth a stinger motor and 20/86 gearing.
The rear tires are IMEX CLAW DAWGS. I'm using Losi 2 inch blue springs up front. I've found another trick to keep it on all fours, but changing the rear to the high roll center. The Imex's are 2.5" wide, it tends to slide more now even on rough terrain. I'll be testing the Losi Dessert tire tires as soon as they arrive in the mail.I'm thinking they will work well and look more scale.

I managed to get my Slash back together for a run before I left for a week (which I just got back from). The plan was to hit up my friend's property cuz his brother has a small dirt bike track. I had like 8 batteries charged, truck prepped, backpack full of tools, sand paddles and was ready to rock n roll for like an hour. Except on our way out to the property.... it started pouring. We, my friend, his girlfriend, another friend and myself, ended up just cruising around dirt (sand) roads through the groves. Ended up at a grocery store and went to my friend's apartment where his girlfriend cooked us all chicken parm, spaghetti, garlic bread, king crab and brownies.

While she was cooking I grabbed one of my Radio Shack packs and cruised around his parking lot. I have to say the front sway bar is incredible. Even tho I was running a VXL system on a 6cell 3300 pack, I could hold the wheel hard to the side while the throttle was wide open and it wouldn't flip. The parking lot is nice smooth black top and it was a little moist so I'm sure that helped a bit too. It still rolled while coasting and turning hard but nowhere near as easily as it would without the sway bar.

So definitely get yourself a sway bar.

The AX10 wheels held up well and didn't rub the knuckles or caster blocks at all. The Hammers do pretty well tho they rub the body a bit at the bottom of the fenders. Which is an easy fix with the Dremel, I just haven't gotten around to it. I like the Hammers but they don't always sit straight on the wheel and I imagine on lipo power, 7cells or more they'd balloon a bit. At the moment they also need to be balanced. I have one front tire that was hopping pretty good. I have a few ideas for other 2.2's for my truck but I'm gonna wait til these wear out or I have the funds. I'm also liking the looks of the Maxxis tire that's coming out on the HPI Blitz.

A couple weeks ago I saw a member of another forum cut some scrap lexan to make some inner fenders. He has the Proline Bug body on his Slash and the large fenders show a lot of the chassis. I posted about how much I liked the idea and how well they worked for being a simple mod. I also mentioned how since my body is raised to fit 2.2's there's a lot of the chassis visible through the fenders, so he cut some extra and send 'em to me for free!

I didn't bother with step-by-step pics, just got a couple finished shots. I didn't have much paint options and couldn't decide on anything with what I had, so I just went with "Outlaw Black". The guy who sent me the pieces used double-sided tape and then 3 screws for each piece. Not wanting to put holes in my chassis right away I just used some double-sided tape. I'm not sure of the brand but this stuff is sticky as hell. It's gray with red peel-off layer. I had a couple extra pieces so I made a little antenna piece for my spekky.

My camera doesn't do too well in this room, the light is funny and I can't figure it out.
I'll try to get some pics outside tomorrow.

Looks good, the tape btw is parma pro series stuff got a roll of it here but my esc's never stay put with it after a hard run. Another thing I do with the spektrum rx's is take a antenna tube and glue it to the side of the rx, nice and clean and not all running all over.

I don't remember buying any Parma tape, they probably just re-package whatever the brand I bought.
Anyway, it seems pretty damn sticky but there's only one way to found out.

I thought about gluing an antenna tube to the rx but I didn't want to do anything permanent. I also thought about mounting the piece I made to the rx case but felt it being higher in the chassis, it would get better signal. I may change it in the future but this is a lot better than just weaving it through the holes in the body post.

Last thing you gotta worry about is reception, I never even run mine outside anymore and I just use a dab of yes wait for it, shoe goo to hold the tube on the side of the rx case then run your wire and done, if need be heat the tube a little and bend it towards the back so the body doesnt hit it. Give you an idea on the spektrum site they tell you can even cut those antenna wires by half and it wont effect range.
That pro tape also you can peel it off with out it coming all apart like the black stuff :righton

Nice Idea Spliff. I might have to barrow it. :) I do the mini antenna tube idea as well with mine.I don't glue it to the RX I let if hang about.

Gave it a runnin a few minutes ago. Burned through a Trinity Reference Li-Pro 4500mah 2s... and think I actually swelled it. The sides of the case are showing more of a separation than usual and it got pretty warm. Motor got pretty hot, gonna have to adjust the gearing (stock right now). Also need to pick up a temp gun, Savage03 gave me a link to a pretty good $12 one.

So some dirt still got in the chassis but I wasn't expecting the inner fenders to keep it all out. Mostly a cosmetic thing. Rolled a couple times, no big jumps or crashes. So far the double-sided tape I used is holding up, tho where the sticky was exposed is covered in dirt.

Got some stuff in the mail today... actually, everything I've ordered recently showed up today:
Slash-RC-Racer.com decals by KKD
Traxxas Big Bore front shocks for Slash or Rustler (can't decide)
Velleman 50watt soldering station
RPM rear Slash arms

While I had the Slash on the operating table for the rear arms, I installed the rear shock tower I've been kicking around for quite a while. I also cleaned the rear shock bodies, checked the oil and decided to drain and fill with 40wt. The stock oil that came out was kinda dirty and smokey colored. I haven't driven it yet but the 40wt feels nice to push on and now with some extra retainers, the rear sits a bit higher and rebounds to normal. Maybe it's fixed?... definitely looks better.

For the decals... I had planned to put one on top of each rear fender but the Desert Rat body has some interesting angles. The outer corner of the fender goes up, the bottom of the letters would have been higher than the top. I felt at certain angles they'd be hard to read or totally blocked. Instead this is what I ended up with and I think it looks pretty sweet...

When I came back inside after taking pics I went looking for some other decals I had... could've sworn I ordered a set of off-road decals but can't find 'em. I did find some Traxxas decals and put a "Velineon brushless system" decal in the blank section above the Kona Kustom Decals.. uh, decal. I also put some RPM stickers on the side of the cab in the white sticker behind the windows. I also put an RPM and Traxxas decal on either side of the rear inner fenders.

I'm gonna have to go check my Tower orders to see if I did order those off-road decals.

It was dirty... but I had to clean it for the decals and then just kept going to make it shiny for the pics.
The underneath and chassis are still pretty dusty from Friday.

Gave 'er a runnin the other day. Drained the rest of a 6cell 3300 I started in my WK a few days before, then tossed in a 2s and tore it up.

I love driving this truck :)

Ever since it went Spektrum it's seemed that reverse had more power/punch than forward. I don't have the radios manual on hand so I was just lightly playing with settings. I turned the TDB (throttle deadband?) up but all it did was make rev go crazy when I barely tapped it, forward was still a bit more relaxed. I spent some time with the radio today (still without manual) and reversed the throttle, which would make sense to reverse what seemed to be reversed. I haven't tested it yet, maybe this weekend but hopefully that did it. Was kind of annoying that it went "fine" in forward but when I went to back up, the truck went full bore kickin dirt and rocks everywhere.
