I've never tried the duct tape trick, will it work for side wall strenth? yeah, maybe some larger or more firm foams would help, they're fine until I try and turn then they buckle. Like the swampers with the G8 compound.. these feel very similar.

for grins I checked all my gear and I could put the truck back stock fairly easily but the leaf setup is overly stiff, every build thread I have read says that. Also, my speed in 2nd gear now is about what I had hoped out of 3rd gear so I am thinking about trying the 35t brushed motor in it.. I have that 10.5t sensored tekin that's going to be too fast. I was thinking about seeing if I could trade that for a 21.5t tekin sensored. I guess it doesn't hurt to put up a thread and see if someone wants to.

Hmm well they are 1.9 so get some 2.2 foams and stuff in there id find some soft ones and if their to much then trim a little at a time. can you remove a leaf to soften them?

i like the 2 stage foams from crawler innovations. they have a very stiff inner part and then a really soft outta part. they make the tire feel very scale though.

MJ - ahhh.. I will check them out. :) ty for the tip .

On the leafs, they are out of the truck :) I have axial xr10 shocks and the 4-link only. The shocks are 104mm which is pretty tall but with the axle servo mount you need some extra lift to avoid hitting the chassis. Anyways.. my issue is that the suspension is so soft that with the weight of the chassis it still gets kind of stuck on one side or the other, doesn't right itself completely if you say, push on the left side.. it comes back to about 75% but is still leaning. So when you take a turn at any speed the body rolls hard. Anyways.. with 40wt in all corners it's better. I might try 50 or 60wt next, starting in the rears.

But enough of that... I am kind of tiring fighting with the suspension, moving something more fun for a bit.

(finally getting around to using that second lighting kit I won in the rig of the month contest WAYYY back when ... thanks to BILL for the awesome lights)

I had to drill the rear buckets a little to fit the reds in the rear but they fit perfect. They even stay in very snug with no glue.

QUESTION: on the front LEDs, they don't stay in by themselves, so should I use HOT glue or SHOOgoo?? I was leaning towards hot glue but I know it can come off with rough driving.. but seems like being able to take these off easily might be a bonus if I ever want to replace an LED or something.. Thoughts???

Hot glue tends to chip off easy, did on the serious bash rigs is just use a tin dab of shoe goo you dont need alot to hold those so its still very easy to remove, things burn for so long the body will die before they will lol.

Still got those internal spring shocks?

shoo goo it is then.. I might try some hot glue for the wiring.. waiting for shoo to cure takes so long.. I kind of have to do the wire routing and securing in stages.

which internal spring shocks? the stock tamiya ones?

You had some HR ones? Goo actually sets really fast few minutes and you can let go of it dont pull or anything, I usually get it all installed then just a tad on the finger tip and hit the lights and let it sit a bit then carry on.

I do still have those. they are ok.. they don't always compress smoothly. I put oil in them which made them a ton better but sill lack adjust-ability (no way to put preload on them - heabier oil maybe tho).

I think I fixed the body-roll twist whatever it is..

Image

I remembered the WK had this problem when I extended it and I used the same brace on that. I had an extra on so tried it out. I need to put like one washer on the inside of the link spacer so it's just a little more narrow at the axle side, but it works! I can turn and drive around pretty aggressively and it behaves well.. finally.

EDIT: on the goop.. I guess when you use a little bit it does set up faster.. I guess I was remembering doing major body gluing and it took like overnight to cure.

got the lighting wires all secured under the cab... I built an extender cable for my ESC <--> battery lead so I can leave the cab on all the time now, well, unless I really need to get to something underneath. So I can plug the esc in now under the bed. whew. The brace I put on works so well. The truck drives so much better now. The headlights are BRIGHT also.. wow! the headlights light up the whole hallway at night. I love how the LEDs look behind the lens covers also.. like real headlights. You can't see that in this pic but you can see how bright they are

Image

In other news, the guy from Holland who built the camo F350 with the same 4-link and 4ws setup I have PM'd me back and said he has the same twist issues I had and gave me some tips on how to lessen it. He's got 94mm gmade ZERO shocks which let the truck sit at a little lower ride height which is probably closer to ideal height... my shocks are 104mm and they really push the truck's height to about max... I think it'll look more normal with the 4.25" crushers on those beadlocks but with the stock wheel/tire there's a lot of open wheel well.. Anyways.. it's coming together here.. I guess I should think about waterproofing now.. and a 4chan radio... :)

Thanks.. I picked up a few scale goodies for the back also.. stuff people made.. cheap on ebay. I had some things on my honcho but was never really happy with any of them so sold them off with the truck.. I kept a couple items though.. bungee chords, a chain, mini ropes, and some other stuff.. I'm going to try making a license plate tonight. maybe sandwich the paper part between two bits of lexan? hmm..

you can just use clea packing tape on the plate man. Guess you could do the lexan, but the tape works fine

As soon as I get my tire situation better I am hitting the trails..

I made a plate but not sure I like it, I think it might be too small... I'll take some pics tomorrow.. too tired atm.

Got my rock crushers today and FINALLY I have a good set of tires for driving this thing... they are big enough to give it a little extra axle clearance but not too big so I am rubbing in the wheel wells.. I almost feel like the links on the 4-link are just a tad too short so when the suspension is sprung high the axles are not centered under the wheel wells.. I might try adding a small washer before the dubro ends on those to push the axles back under the wells, center them more. Anyways.. PICS

I guess the license plate came out better than I thought.. I got F350 emblems also for the body but they need to be painted and sanded down with some 1200 grit to get the background color right on them... blue on the oval ford one and black on the F350 and V8 ones.. I got an F350 decal set from some guy in japan also.. cheap. The emblems are going to look the best so I will use those I think and maybe the 4x4 decal for the side of the bed..

Thanks guys... yeah, I want to do the lights in the light bar also... thinking about using the tamiya module I have for that and running them off the main battery.. I could tap into the extender I made for some juice.. or just go with another BILLs LIGHTing circuit..

I want to make a net of some kind and put some kind so I can trap some scale goodies under the roll bar area..

I could maybe make a spider web type net for you with scale bungee cord hooks on the ends. PM me if you'd be interested in one. I've been making scale bungee cords here lately. No shrink wrap on the ends so they look realistic too.

Real nicely done scale rig. Looking good man. Very different from what we are used to seeing around here. Looking forward to some trail pics and vids.l8r,w.

Thanks man! I was going to try and get the truck on a trail today but I forgot I haven't thread lockered my beadlock ring screws... then I remembered I had painted the ford emblems on Friday and worked on sanding and installing those..

Image
Image

they came out ok.. I still need to touch a couple up with a fine tipped sharpie which I don't have here but will get. I used shoogoo to stick them on

Image
Image

I got a couple scale things for the back and loaded them up for a test..

Image
Image
Image

Just driving around the yard and house those beadlock ring screws (well, some) got a little loose so going to thread locker them lightly..

thanks man... so question for the group. I used shoogoo for the passenger side mirror and it popped right off first thing it hit.. the other side is on (I didn't glue that one myself) VERY well... Should I try some epoxy or something? I know there's a mirror mod you can do to make it so the mirror bends but I read it doesn't always work well.. there are rubber mirrors but they are OOS everywhere..

HD I still need to measure the bungee lengths.. hopefully tonight..
