hey guys, some of you may have saw my tease about starting a new build. well here goes nothing. starting the slow build of a 2.2 scaler.

planned setup will be...

Gonna use that homemade Tube body i made and go for the Duece & 1/2 look, chopped to two axles of course.

axles are gonna be some narrowed TF axles. probably around some wraith width.

wheels are gonna be some custom jobbers so i can fit the 17mm hubs.

chassis makin a twin rail from scratch. just bent it up tonight. 1/2 steel. gonna start the hack saw and dremmel this week and should be split in a couple days.

pretty much gonna be hackin and filin for a couple weeks while parts come in on the budget but excited to get this going.

Needs 3 axles, haha. Given your past builds, this will be another great one.

thanks guys. ordered a couple axle link mounts this morning from www.supershafty.com for my twin force axles. should get them the end if the week. the short side stub is coming today, so i should have a mocked up from axle in a day or two, and the rear axle close behind.

then its on to making the links, shock mounts, body mount, skid plate, cross members... fun fun.

lol, it'll look good. Get some mud pluggers to go on there, some steelies. It'll be awesome.

what's a mud plugger?

not sure i can get steelies to work unless i get someone to make me some custom hubs for them for 17mm. then i would def get them, because they are a bit cheaper, and i really like the look better than anthing else i have seen. other people have also said getting the bead to work on the steelies can be a pain. but i could always glue them....

mud pluggers is the exact tire thats one you 1:1 pic, and I mean exact. They're a scale tire. I see em on rcc very often.

i was just poking around there as well and found them too. very scale. almost like non directional tires. (which guys joke means you wont go in any direction)

very cool.

hey guys, got a little work done. got the chassis rails split. i used a basic dremel with the new EZ lock and 1.5" cutoff wheels. went through 4 of them, but it actually worked a lot better than i thought. and was def easier than a hack saw.

Image

also got the axle stubs from SuperShafty and got the axle mocked up. from hub to hub they are 240mm, a wraith is about 250mm. so i tihnk this might be good for now.

do you guys think this is too wide?? or should i just go for it??

eh, prolly goin to look a little bow-legged. The back wont be so bad if you make some dually wheels. But that front will def look odd. How about some flat fenders on the front & rear?

great minds....

had the same idea to make a nice rear fender for the back tires. first step is to get the chassis rails bolted together so i can start looking at shock mounts and all the other things like a servo mount, skid plate, pan hard. all that stuff.

so i was tihnking of going full leaf sprung all the way around with this. just need the leaf axle mounts. at least i can start making some beta versions out of some cutting board. guess who bought a nice 15/16" forsner bit (same dia as the axles) the other day just for this type of scenario. i can have this part mocked up very soon now!! then its making some shackles.

next will be getting some leafs that i think are tough enough, anyone have experience with that type of scale building.?

oh spent most of tonight lining things up for wheelbase, and just staring at this thing thinking about either a transfer case, front mounted tranny, long long driveshafts :) then getting the servo mount done. all sorts of fun.

WB is right at 13" so might stick with something like that, but its probably gonna be different than that.

they got those scale tires too. I like the flat bed version in your previous pic better.
