On my land cruiser I used tamiya high lift leafs. The are pretty strong and you can add the inserts to tweak the stffness. The other option that a lot of people seem to use is the recoil spring frm a lawn mower or the like. Would be pretty strong.

I've had the same idea MJ but in reverse. 14mm is really close to 9/16" haha. What size did you use for 12mm, brake line fitting? Oh, and I vote for proline TSL's.

def a prototype. making it wont be any cheaper than buying a GCM, but i like to buy tools just as much, and i need some different tools for this one, new dril bits, things like that.

I like where your goin with this. So what are you going to run as a drive gear? Is what we're seeing the outputs?

what you are seeing is just some dremmel mandrels holding the pinions in place. it wil have 5mm shafts soon. needed to get a 5mm drill bit, some 5mm drill blanks, and some bearings. this was just a mock up of the jig to drill for the gear mesh,

actually wont be too tough when its done.

Ahhhh, i see. So you're going to drill those pinions out to 5mm and run a shaft through each? Should be sturdy. Less moving parts mean less chance of failure.

well this was harder than i thought. but i guess it should be when making it from scratch. front is just about prototyped out. the front shackles bind... the bolt hits the chassis rails and it doesnt compress at all. so i need to put a spacer to get it away from the chassis.

the mounting brackets for the leafs are a bit weird, but they should work until i figure something else out. they are just made from cutting board now, so if i get some delrin i can probably make these a bit smaller.

what you do you think?

well, got the front D-U-N. ugh, took forever. now i need to get the rear done, which means making some more mounts for the axles, and drilling lots more holes than are needed.

so here are the pics. i took some brake line and brazed it on for the shackle mount. works perfectly. i hope its strong enough, seems to be though.

was gonna get some pics of the compression, but batteries died in the cam! think its about 1.5" and feels pretty good too.

so went a completely different way on the leaf mounts. i had this idea from the beginning since it looks a bit more scale with these monster axles. U-Bolts.

made from scratch no less. some 6/32 chocked in the drill press, then the threads filed down on the middle section, bend on my tube bending jig for 1" diameter, and viola, instant U-Bolt. then it was time to make the leaf mount for the U-bolts.

that was a bit easier, just make 4 of the same rectangles out of some 1/8" alum, drill holes, and those are done. milled all the ugle hack saw cuts too, so they are all nice and smooth. plant to paint these black once its ready.

what do you think?

Nice. How about a trackbar(ladder bar) to help with axle rotation and leafs from turning all S shaped?
