I have a Maisto rock climber and i'm in a competition to mod this into a ship (not my idea :) ). I have a $100 budget and have most of it spent on hull and weapons. I'm leaving the steering assembly the same and using this as a rudder system. What I want to do is use the stock rx/tx ( to expensive for new tx and esc) and change the drive motors to 2 matched brushed higher power motors. I'm using a one 2000mAh 7.2 NiCad battery to power these 2 motors and the double AA's to power the stock circuit board and steering. What are my options for controls? I was thinking of a Mosfet bridge or even simpler/cheaper would be a relay that operates from the stock circuit board that allows the NiCad to feed the motors directly. I don't need proportional speed control. Any input would be appreciated thanks guys, reading through all these sites has really sparked my interest in modding rc's and hopefully this summer i'll have a project for me and my daughter to do.

hey man, welcome to the site and fun idea. don't be shy to post pics or any drawings you have.

so what will be the propulsion system? will the wheels work like a paddle boat? or are you putting a prop somewhere?

i think a switch would work best for the motors specially if you only need on/off and no proportional control. that would be simple enough with a simple servo. you could probably even use the servo that came with the maisto.

hope you post some more ideas and drawings so we can try to help some more.

and welcome!
