I had named my tuber "lady Luck" but decided to do a identity swap, so decided to take apart my Redcat Jeep to build a all out crawler. I started with my Redcat axles with the stock 390 motors and a Axial XR10 chassis. I stole the S&S high clearance delrin links from my tuber build and paired them up with some unknown delrin front links.

Image

First step was a BTA mod. I drilled new holes in the stock servo bracket.

Image

I had to drop the linkages below the front links and work out a short small link to connect my Robotronics servo horn to my Hitech servo.

Image

At this point, I was trying to figure out my link setup.

Image

I think I got at this point.

Image

130mm rear shocks???

Image

I got my beadlocks done. Painted the outer rings with Candy red paint, and mounted my HB white dot Rovers on these AXial beadlocks. 4oz weight in each front and 2oz on each read wheel.

Image

From this poiint all I have left to do is mount up my shocks and instal my electronics. The shocks have been a royal pain, I'm having to experiment back and forth with em. But I'll get them figured out.

Any input or advise?

so you are making the scaler a true scaler with the venom axles and the crawler a true power house with MOA style setup, bery cool. next step is gonna be setting up dual motor controls so you can control each axle separately. should be fun!!!

yes, and yes lol. I'm looking at the RC4WD rocker dig setup. I've also found a mod that uses the rear steer servo and a switch to cutoff the power to the rear motors thus making a poor boy dig set up, which is probably what I'll be doing. Plus I've got a Scorpion that should be waiting at home for me tonight. :righton

three shaftys (counting the foff) and one moa. It looks like a nice setup. Wife said it came in the mail today. Its a AX-10 according to the prev owner. All green alloy and a set of Leopard tires. Should come with a rx/tx and a extra set of tires along with a Jeep body that I'll probably end up putting on the FOFF if my daughter doesnt catch on. I got the AX10 for her to try.

I got the spring configuration worked out last night. I doubled up on my pen springs for the rear shocks, and used some short Traxxas shocks off a Bandit on the front. I trimmed the upper tray to allow for maximum travel from my links.
Image
I ended up having to go to a plastic servo horn, and trim down the servo tray as well. I was getting some binding at full lock due to the screw for the servo horn hitting the bottom of the motor.
Image

Hows this for travel???

what is that about 6cm? nice man. how does she articulate so far? hopefully just about a pop can, its what the pro's shoot for!

nice pen springs i have tried that on the superbasher i have, but of course they weren't close to strong enough.

I've got almost exactly 5cm of travel. Articulation seems good, but hard to tell because its so lite. I'm to the point of locking out the rear steer and instaling the electronics. Then time to mount the wheels. From the way it looks, I'll have at least a pop cans worth of articulation. I'll know for sure once I get the wheels mounted. The pen springs werent strong enough alone, thats why I had to double up. I got some air shocks, but I'll probably use them on the ax10.

yup. It'll be on the rocks by Thurs (my day off) It looks realy good with the wheels on there. My only worry is the cheep plastic servo horn. I have a feeling my Hitech is gonna have its way with that horn.

I might be able to move it back some. If this horn gives out I'll look further into it. I'm trying to find this micro switch for the Poor boy dig now. My goal is to be able to comp this rig. It may be bass akwards, but I'm going to build it the best I can and then go over comp rules and see if I can get it legal. I'd like to try at least once to see how far I can get this Redcat. I would absolutely love to get even close to a win with it to show what can be acomplished with one of these.

SO last night was all about the electronics. I got everything mounted, and tucked away the best I could. I've got to come up with something on this battery. I need to find a very small one to mount on the front axle instead of the front links. But for what I have to work with at this time, here's what I came up with.
Image

I've got so much ground clearance it isnt funny. As far as COG goes, I can almost balance it on its own to stand on the back tires.

sounds like you have the balance worked out well. i see a lot of comp guys using batteries half that small. 1300 mah ones. they are really cheap too, maybe 5-10$ each. that one will have you crawling for an hour non stop!

thats what I'm looking for. I just dont know enough about em to pick one out. Should I go with a 500mah 3S or a 1000mah 2s? I'm almost positive it'll run either, but I need it to be as small as possible.

thats what I did. I bought a Sky Lipo 2S 800mah 40c. Thats what I've seen several guys using. It should be small enough to mount to the axle. Damn shipping is as high as the lipo is. Cost me right at $11. I hope it gives me enough run time. I'm not running LEDS or anything. I'll be running the third channel for my homemade DIG setup. I bought the switch for that yesterday. This setup is so simple it isnt even funny. So she'll have dig too for sure. They hold comps in the town that I work (Boonville, IN), so maybe I can take it to one some day. The current issue at hand is rear lockouts. I'm kind of afraid to start grinding and cutting on my axles until I'm confident in what I'm doing. I mounted up the wheels last night for a minte to get a sneek peek. This thing is tough. The ground clearance is very high, and I have right at a beer cans worth of articulation.

well maybe you will be able to get some pointers if you show up at a comp, that is always the best bet. you are doing it right though.

when you go to a comp take lots of pics for us.

I run 1300's but I don't compete. Like you already found out, most run in the 800 range.

Well, here she is. I'm still waiting on my body to get here for it. I'm going with the Axial Hardline shell. Here are some are some pics.

I changed out the servo to a Towerpro and went back to the Robottonics servo horn. The plastic one was shorter and therefor killed my turning radius.

Great ground clearance. Almost enought to stand the can up undernieth. The articlulationn seems to be spot on. Its raing now, so I'll have to try it out another time.

looks real good man. nice job on that.

so its balancing on the tires all on its own? that's pretty sweet.

yes it is. Took several trys. But thats no trick. I found a way to make some wheel weights similar to the bullet weights, and it's dirt cheep too. I'll be posting that mod later. This thing walks right up my short wall without hesitation. I cant wait to get it on some rocks and school Taurus on this mountain. It literaly scaled the wall with very little to no slippage.
