So for something to bs about, if one wanted one for protection what would you choose? Shotgun? pistol? What if you had more then one to take out? lol I thought shotty that can carry more then one cartridge or whatever you call it...I dont know anything about guns really just use em in games lol.

For home protection, I'd prefer a pump action 20 gauge shotgun. Not as much punch as a 12 gauge, but I've always been concerned with shot going thru the wall.

And the sound of a shotgun blast is so much more intimidating than a pistol shot.

I want one like used in predators! lol that is bad ass but I can imagine the cost or if a regular person can even get one.
Most will laugh and go ahead my gf is but I have issues with the whole 2012 deal and after watching the last Brad Meltzer it didnt help much the census is if nothing happens the nut jobs will make it worse then it is and were going to see alot of robbing and so forth...why thinking about this im not a gun fan but rather have one then not if shit hits the fan, like to see something that carries the most that one above if read right holds 8?

well i use to own a 12 gauge and a .22 rifle but sold them some yrs ago. but do to things in this town getting the way they are anymore and plus a couple of weeks ago we had someone try to come in the house through our front door, which luckily was locked we have had the discussion about getting something for home protection. either a nice hand gun or another shot gun.

but if youve got some extra cash laying around here is a site to check out for some guns.

I'm a revolver type guy. For a handgun, a .357 would be my choice. Well, my realistic choice.

What I'd dealy love to have is a vintage six shooter- the well known Colt .45 used in the "Old West".

Umm, are we seriously discussing what firearm to buy to shoot zombies with? If the Lord tarries, 2012 won't be any worse than 2011 except for maybe some extra politics.

M nephew was into the whole end of the world in 2012 due to the Mayan calender running out. Supposedly because Lil Wayne mentions it in his music, haha. Seriously, why would you ever listen to any entertainer(musician, actor, etc) about such matters? It's like taking political advice from your favorite movie star.

I figured we were just talkin' home protection more than zombie killin'. But if you're like me & watch AMC's "The Walking Dead", you know that gunfire attracts zombies & the best way to get 'em is with a good sharp blade or a blunt-force trauma to the head.

Thats why there is a Samuari sword & a Loiusville Slugger next to my bed.

Two aluminum t-ball bats would probably work well then. I know they work well on opossums, and they like to play dead.

I suppose if you think through any situation, "it depends". Of course, the preferable option I'd take on a home invasion situation would be my Benelli Nova 12 gauge with 00 Buckshot. I don't care how big the dude is or what he's on, that's going to get results. Hopefully something that none of us ever have to deal with, but something on my mind, living only a few blocks for the worst area of our city and arguably one of the worst in the state.

My wife can't hold that one up and pump it, but she's scary good with a Smitt & Wesson M&P .40 and is learning how to use the AR-15. I suppose it's comforting to know she could defend herself, if needed, and great to know I've got a damn good side-kick!

My buddy and I were joking talking Zombie invasion plans the other day. It was awesome to find out that his was to have enough fire power to get to my house and they we can ride it out together. :punk

Yeah, if you're talking a home defense type shotgun, the Mossberg 500 is where it's at. It's American made, incredibly reliable, and the accessories for those things are beyond what you can imagine. The one thing you might want to consider of that is to go with a pistol-grip / folding or collapsible stock combo. The reason being is that when you fire a pistol-gripped 12 gauge, the entire force of it is going into the webbing between your thumb and fore-finger. That's going to be ok, if you only got through 5-10 rounds. However, when you practice (I said WHEN, not IF) you will need to run through multiple rounds and reloads. The more you use it, the more familiar you are with it. If you don't know how to operate it instinctively, you won't be able to operate it in an adrenaline rushed panic.

My friend's Mossberg 500 is set up with a collapsible stock / pistol grip combo with a red-dot optic on top and a 4-round extension on the magazine tube. Because the the lightweight stock, his loaded up with 8+1 rounds is lighter than my Benelli that's set up with a traditional stock and holds 4+1.

Of course, if you want to shoot trap/skeet, consider buying one set up traditionally with a full stock and brass or fiber-optic sight, rather than tactical accessories. If you show up to shoot trap with a tactical shotgun, all the old Fudd's will run for cover when you step up to the line!

for home defense. i woudl get a 12 guage. you dont have to aim. just point and shoot. a pistol can be dropped, you can miss. and like they said, its not scary.

a shotgun fired once into a wall and no even at someone is enough to scare most intruders away.

if you hve a local gun shop, take a trip down and take a look at a nice used one. they can be purchased for much cheaper than new. and are still usually very reliable.

So you can up that also? What kind of shells do you want?
My aunts hubby is a gun nut and I mean nut has tons of em but they live up in the mountains by Stayton and he can walk out his door and shoot, I could get osme practive time there for sure which is another question, can one just purchase these without a hassle? When traveling whats the story there? can you take it and have it say in the trunk?

Other then this one other choices in the price range? How about a non pump type if their is one...

You're in Cali- you'll need to do some heavy investigating into what it takes to legally obtain a gun. I'm not certain, but I've heard they're pretty stringent there about guns.

I'm not 100% sure what they consider assault, because that's a made-up term to scare people. They're probably referring to any semi-auto rifle with a magazine, and I believe that you are limited to 5-rounds in CA...unless you purchase a "repair kit" for your 30-round mags. By repair kit, it typically means you build the mag yourself by inserting the spring and follower into the housing instead of being able to purchase a fully built magazine.

As for the difference between semi-auto and pump shotguns, I really prefer my pump. It's manual, sure, but it's still pretty fast and the mechanics are more reliable. You might also want to check in to Cali law, since semi-auto may put limits on your ability to purchase. That, or move to one of the free states in the union. :-) I like "shopping" at cheaperthandirt.com or Bud's Gunshop (google it). Check out the Mossberg 930 Home Defense version. It's got a shorter barrel, making it more maneuverable inside of a house. However, cheaperthandirt.com says that can't ship it to CA.

Take a look at this, it's more understandable as to the allowed semi-auto shotguns in CA: http://gunwiki.net/Gunwiki/LegalCaliforniaShotgunGuide

Some of the lines from that link...

California has very few restrictions on the purchasing, possession, use, and transporting of long guns and shotguns that are not classified as assault weapons.

the following firearms are banned by characteristic :
(6) A semiautomatic shotgun that has both of the following:
(A) A folding or telescoping stock.
(B) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon, thumbhole stock, or vertical handgrip.
(7) A semiautomatic shotgun that has the ability to accept a detachable magazine.
(8) Any shotgun with a revolving cylinder.
In addition, (Penal Code §§ 12001.5) bans, by definition, short-barreled shotguns and short-barreled rifles. Defined in Penal Code §§ 12020; a short-barreled shotgun is defined as a firearm (designed, redesigned, or altered) to fire a fixed shotgun shell and has a barrel or barrels of less than 18 inches or an overall length of less than 26 inches. A short-barreled rifle is defined as a semiautomatic, center fire rifle with a barrel length of less than 16 inches or an overall length of less than 26 inches.

Long guns (rifles, shotguns) must be unloaded when transported in a vehicle. There is no requirement for a locked container with the exception of long guns considered to be "assault weapons". Federal law requires locking containers when inside of a "gun-free school zone." The constitutionality of the federal Gun-Free School Zone Act is in question due to the U.S. v. Lopez ruling.

yeah, lots of laws in CA for guns. really the best place to buy a gun with no hassle is a gun show with cash. :)

my brother has a single action single barrel .12 its awesome. about the same size as a Daisy BB gun. but man its fun to shoot. might weigh 5 pounds.

these are only one shot. but really for a home invasion, should be all you need. or just buy two :)
